Kelly began her career as a clinician over fifteen years ago working in the field of at-risk teenagers. Kelly later gained experience in private practice, psychiatric hospital administration, and the field of substance abuse, working on various issues from depression and anxiety to trauma and addiction. She graduated with her B.A. from UC San Diego and then proceeded to obtain two master’s degrees. After completing her education, Kelly became a LMFT in the state of CA in 2009.
Kelly currently sees individuals, couples and family members for therapy using primarily Cognitive-Behavioral and psychodynamic theories, yet also drawing from various other psychological theories when deemed beneficial for the client (such as EMDR, family systems, ACT, etc). Kelly knows that essential parts of the therapeutic process are building rapport and identifying past or present emotional wounds. Present life situations may tap into such old wounds and/or the irrational beliefs created during such life events. Therapy ideally helps the client to heal such wounds, while increasing insight into the client’s unique feelings and behaviors.
It is Kelly's desire to help everyone in therapy increase both their self-awareness and self-acceptance. Kelly is also passionate about helping her clients self-soothe, learn about and implement effective boundaries, and gain new coping skills in order to manage the stress of everyday life more effectively.
Lastly, Kelly is specially trained in EMDR therapy, and is a Certified Clinical Trauma Specialist. She has been a Clinical Supervisor, Program Director and has been published in "The Therapist" magazine.
